IBM Data & AI - Gen AI and Automation Assistant for Businesses

Business Problem:

The product team was tasked with integrating the functionality and experience of three separate tools. To build a seamless and valuable MVP, we first needed to align on a clear vision—grounded in a deep understanding of our users, their roles, workflows, and key needs.

Research Program:

  • Concept tests (2) to first assess whether the integrated product resonated with users and was perceived as valuable, and then to identify the best framework that aligned with use case requirements and user mental models to complete their tasks

  • Generative interviews with target users, resulting in a journey map to understand their roles, existing processes, pain points, opportunities, and needs

  • Cloze survey to align on terminology for the integrated product and resolve known confusion from the three separate products

  • Usability tests (2) one pre-launch to evaluate key task flows and one post-launch to assess a new flow designed to address a critical user pain point

Impact:

This research program generated 20 actionable insights that were instrumental in helping the team understand the user, their needs, and key requirements. It informed the go to market strategy, defined AI’s role in the experience, guided design decisions, unified the terminology, and improved the usability of the MVP.

The product team won an iF 2025 Design Award.

“Linda has done a great job managing this quick concept testing. She did a nice simple roll up and turned it around fast.”
